The 7th Annual Poppy Walk & 5k Run will take place on Saturday, March 11th, 2017.
The Poppy Walk is a fundraiser for the Peg Taylor Center, which supports local people who are living with serious health conditions.
We help whole families thrive by providing medical and social services that improve both health and quality of life, helping people to be healthy, happy, and independent, even in the face of challenges.

The Poppy Walk will take place on March 11th, in beautiful Bidwell Park, right at the start of the Spring 5k season.
Consider making up a team of coworkers, family, or friends – last year, teams brought the spirit, with lots of cheering and even some team costumes! This year, teams and individuals will have the opportunity to fund raise above and beyond their entry fees, and those who raise the most money for the Peg Taylor Center will be recognized and receive a prize. Since 1985, when we opened our doors through the gracious hospitality of a local church, we have worked hard to provide care that allowed people to thrive and improve their health even in the face of significant challenges. When it was time to grow and spread our wings, our community stepped up to the challenge — your donations and hard work ensured a successful capital campaign, and in 1992 we moved into the lovely, purpose-built building we still call home today. Now we’re getting ready to celebrate our history, and our partnership with all of you, with our sixth annual Poppy Walk and 5k Run, on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016! The Poppy Walk is our principal yearly fundraiser, and a great way to connect with the community. We would love for you to be involved, whether your company or family sponsors the event, you join with some friends and family and register a team, you just run in the 5k yourself, or even show up to cheer people on.
We know the Poppy Walk & 5k Run is still a few months away; this is a big year, so we’re starting early on the planning. Here are some things you can do right now to get involved!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the Fifth Annual Poppy Walk! We had a wonderful time and raised nearly $30,000 in direct and in-kind support for the Peg Taylor Center, thanks to our amazing sponsors, volunteers, and walkers & runners.
You can view the results of the timed run on Under the Sun’s website. We’ll have pictures up very shortly! The Poppy Walk and 5k Run is only a few days away! We’re getting excited…
Are you all registered for Saturday? Great! The next step is picking up your packet.
The packet contains your t-shirt (guaranteed if you registered on or before 3/14), your runner’s bib (if you signed up for the timed run), some info about the Peg Taylor Center, and some coupons and other goodies!
Packet Pick-Up is on Friday, at Fleet Feet (241 Main Street in Chico), from 10-6. You can also stop by Fleet Feet to register for the race, since online registration will have closed by then.
If you can’t make it to Fleet Feet, no worries — just come by the Packet Pick-Up table at the One-Mile picnic area before the Poppy Walk! Packet Pick-up will be open from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. on Saturday.
If you do pick up your packet at Fleet Feet on Friday, when you get to the park on Saturday, there’s no need to check in with us. Just get stretched, enjoy yourself, and find the starting line! Runners and walkers will both take off at 8:30.
A few notes and reminders:
Race Day Registration
- Race day registration will go from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. (Registration is available up until Friday afternoon at Fleet Feet or the Peg Taylor Center.)
- The Run and Walk both start at 8:30 a.m. and Runners and Walkers should be in line by 8:15, with timed runners (those with bibs) in front.
- Timed Runners should wear their numbered bibs over their midsection (for best timing results, be sure not to cover up the bib). Water will be available after the Run, but not along the route except at park drinking fountain. Results from the timed 5K will be available after the event at www.underthesunevents.org.
- Please park outside the park and then come to the 1 Mile Picnic Area (near the ball field by Caper Acres). Normal parking within the park will be available after 9:00 a.m.
- People with a Disabled Person Parking Placard may park within Bidwell Park, if you arrive between 7:00 and 7:45. Please show your placard to the gate monitor. You can call us at (530) 342-2345 for more information.
Online registration is open through tomorrow (Wednesday, 3/25) at noon! Just click on the “Register” button to your right to register online now.
Once online registration has closed, you can still participate — just stop by Fleet Feet between 10 and 6 on Friday, 3/27, or register on race day at the park between 7:30 and 8:15.
